How to join a Wi-Fi network with a Mac computer

We may visit all internet websites by connecting our Mac computer to a Wi-Fi network. Wi-Fi is important in helping us to do our tasks quickly online while also having fun on various social media platforms.

However, a problem could occasionally come up. When this happens, our Mac device’s Ethernet or Wi-Fi isn’t functional. If this occurs, we would lose access to the internet, which will gradually have an impact on everything from utilizing important work apps to using social media and taking advantage of online purchasing. In this article, we’ll explain how to resolve problems with network connectivity, such as a MacBook that won’t connect to Wi-Fi, a MacBook that’s connected to Wi-Fi but can’t access the internet, and others.

WHAT CAUSES A MAC’S INABILITY TO CONNECT TO THE WI-FI NETWORK?

  • Check out the list of causes provided below for more information on the four primary causes of Wi-Fi outages.
  • Your router is malfunctioning.
  • The network of your broadband provider is down.
  • The Wi-Fi network you are using has a problem.
  • There might be a problem with the version of macOS you’re using.

HOW TO CONNECT TO WI-FI ON A MAC

  • If you’re within range of a Wi-Fi network, you can try to join it to connect your Mac to the internet through Wi-Fi.

Join a public Wi-Fi network

  • On your Mac, select the network you want to join by clicking the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar.
  • If the network you want to join isn’t listed, select Other Networks to see a list of nearby networks.
  • If prompted, provide the network password before choosing Join.

Join a hidden Wi-Fi network

  • The name, security protocol, and password of the hidden network must be known to join it.
  • On your Mac, click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar, choose Other Networks, and then select Other from the list of available networks at the bottom of the window.
  • In the Network Name field, type the name of the wireless network.
  • Select the network’s wireless security method by clicking the Security pop-up option.
  • Click Join after filling out any displayed additional details, such as a user name and password.

Connect using Personal Hotspot

  • You can link your iPhone or iPad’s cellular data connection (Wi-Fi + Cellular) to your Mac using the majority of carrier plans.

Connect using Ethernet

  • Connect an Ethernet cable from your router or modem to the Ethernet port on your Mac to access the internet through a wired connection.
  • A Gigabit Ethernet adapters, such as the Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter or the Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, are necessary for some Mac models.

HOW TO FIX MAC NOT CONNECTING TO WI-FI NETWORK

  • Try these fixes if your Mac is connected to a Wi-Fi network but is unable to connect to websites, email, or any other internet services.

Restart your Mac

  • Select Shut Down from the drop-down menu by clicking the Apple icon in the top menu bar.
  • Turn off, Mac.
  • Wait until your Mac has fully shut down.
  • Press the Power button to restart after 30 seconds.

Power Cycle Modem/Router

  • Remove the modem/power router’s supply from the device. Either use the ON/OFF switch or remove the cord out of the wall socket (If available).
  • Reconnect the modem/router to its power supply after waiting 60 seconds.

Try a different network or contact your ISP

  • Check with your network administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP) to make sure your network is operating properly and if you can access the internet while connected to a separate network or if you’re unsure.

Update your Mac

  • Check the date and time settings and update the software on your Mac.

Update the Wi-Fi router

  • Install the most recent router firmware upgrades, as advised by the router’s manufacturer, if you are in charge of managing the network’s Wi-Fi router.
  • Use Apple’s specified Wi-Fi router and access point settings, and restart the router if necessary.

Run Apple Diagnostics

  • Use Apple Diagnostics to look for Wi-Fi or network problems if your Wi-Fi concerns are still unresolved. Follow these steps to do so:
  • Simply remove all external devices (except the keyboard and screen).
  • After turning off the Mac, restart it while holding down the D key.
  • Choose your language when the screen prompts you to do so, and then observe as the progress bar shows that your Mac is being evaluated.
  • Apple Diagnostics will offer fixes if issues are found.

Conclusion: It’s important to troubleshoot and fix this problem with our Mac computer so that it doesn’t interfere with our ability to use the Wi-Fi connection to access all online websites and social media platforms for work and leisure.
